Kythnos

Kythnos is an island in the Cyclades between Kea and Serifos within 56 nautical miles from Piraeus and 26 nautical miles from the port of Lavrio.The main port is MERICHAS next to the truly impressive and unique beach Kolona (a strip of sand connecting the Kythnos island Ag.Louka). In Mericha You will find traditional taverns, restaurants, cafes, clubs, souvenirs etc. It has to be noted that Kythnos is famous for fishing and you will surely enjoy fresh fish.
Kithnos was called Thermia, at least since the 12th century due to the hot springs that exist even today in the bay of the Baths. The springs of Kythnos were said to be used by the King Otto and Queen Amalia (1837-1862). Note that in Loutra there is a marina for yachts as well as taverns, restaurants and cafes.
Kythnos has an area of 99.3 square kilometres. and coastline about 104 km, with 92 bays, coves and beaches, most of which are road accessible.

Attractions The island has two inland villages, Chora or Mesaria with Cycladic architecture and Dryopida built in a pit to be protected from pirates with cobbled streets and tiled roofs, suggesting that the Kythnos, had developed early in the ceramic art.
In Dryopida cave Katafyki is worth visiting as well as Byzantine and Folklore Museum.
The Municipality of Kythnos have Hora Dryopida, Merichas Agios Dimitrios, Agia Irini, Agios Stefanos, Apocrousi, Loutra, Naoussa, Gaiouromantra, Episkopi, Kalo Livadi, Kanala, Lefkes, Liotrivi, Skilou, Flampouria and Piperi.

Accessibility

By Sea There are daily connections from Piraeus (journey time 3 hours) and from Lavrion (journey 1 hours and 40 minutes) with vessels.During Summer period Lavrion has connections 2 to 3 times daily. Also there are connections with Kea (1 hour k10l.) with Serifos (1 hour k15l) with Sifnos (2 hours), with Milos (2 hours k45l) with Syros 4 times a week, as well with Tinos and Andros.
